13. Comic.
… because yes, I still haven’t finished that 30-day drawing challenge from last year OTL
Here’s a scene I’ve been meaning to draw for many, many years now. It’s from one of my favourite online novels, Firebird (by Monica Jimenez), which had some of the most poignant, art-worthy scenes ever. Seriously, the story had so many epic scenes that it’s been 9 years since I read it, and I still haven’t finished drawing them all hahaha. It deserves to be made into a movie (if it ever gets published).
Drawing this brought back some good memories from high school and of this novel :) Drawing this also reminded me how hard making comics is ;___; My hat’s off to you, comic artists and mangaka of the world!
Pray.
OK since this was already received over two weeks ago it’s safe to post this here now :D A birthday present and encouragement, for one of my bestest friends in the world! :) Happy birthday, Jacky!

12. Most recent accomplishment.
I passed the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), level N3! The JLPT certifies an individual’s Japanese language skill—similar to the TOEFL for English. There are 5 levels, and the top level (N1) pretty much means you’re fluent enough to work and live in Japan. The N1 is a requirement for most professional board exams (e.g. those for medical practitioners), and gives preferential treatment for immigration to Japan.
Needless to say, the N1 is also a goal of mine. >:)
The scenes above, from the top: studying in the university hallway right before the exam (which was this past December); going to a bookstore inside the Mitsuwa complex to purchase textbooks with a friend; writing the actual exam; trying to practice listening questions (which ended up being my worst mark hehe); the actual N3 certificate (which came in the mail the other day). :)

11. Turning point in life
Yep, still trying to finish this series haha. Left side: Manila; right side: Toronto.

10. Favourite candy
Still continuing the series, despite it not being July anymore! xD I don’t think I’ve ever found TimeOut in North America… so it’s a special treat whenever I go back to Asia (or Europe, I guess.. haha!)

9. Favourite TV show
I credit my enthusiasm for this show to my older brother, who by the age of 11 had read pretty much all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works about the detective (and regaled his siblings with said stories). The BBC’s take on it is nostalgic and mesmerizing at once.

8. Favourite animated character
“Drawing Rukia… is like drawing an octopus,” said Janine, talented animator friend, back in HS. Ten (!) years later, long after I’d abandoned Bleach, Kuchiki Rukia is still a personal fave, and my go-to character for drawing 😁

7. Favourite movie
I still remember the night I first watched this movie (which also happened to be my first Ghibli movie). I couldn’t get the ending out of my head for weeks after. I guess that’s how I knew it would be my favourite.
